Barry Moser studied art at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, and with George Cress at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Moser's hometown. While pursuing those studies Moser also became interested in theology and biblical studies, and for a short while held a preacher's license in the Methodist church. Moser's most recent book is a fully-illustrated edition of The Holy Bible, published in 1999, and his work includes illustrated editions of Moby-Dick, Dante's Divine Comedy, The Odyssey of Homer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, as well as a broad selection of books for children including Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which won a National Book Award for design in 1983. His books have won numerous awards and recognition from The New York Times, Book Builders West, The Society of Illustrators, The New York Public Library, and the American Library Association. Mr. Moser is a member of the national Academy of Design and is an occasional member of the faculty at the Rhode Island School of Design. He has been a teaching fellow at Princeton University and artist in residence at Vassar College, and has lectured at colleges, universities, and other institutions across the country.
