SUMMARY

Daniel Evers, a young mapmaker and astronomer committed only to rational processes, comes to Hudsons Bay in 1786 to map a route to the Companys deep wilderness Inland Station. He is accompanied by Longmore, a Company guide who possesses the intuitive and compassionate qualities that Daniel lacks and must acquire to become complete. The 700-mile journey consists of encounters with various Indian tribes and individuals which gradually alter Daniels state of awareness and prepare him for the final transformation of self when he arrives at the Inland Station. This is accomplished when the Indians at the Station ritually adopt Daniel into their tribe and burn Longmore at the stake. Through these acts and by means of sympathetic magic in an episode of ritual cannibalism, the separated sides of Daniels nature are joined, a union which renders him fully human and completes his transformation.VanDerBeets, Richard is the author of 'Inland Station' with ISBN 9781591294467 and ISBN 1591294460.
