Publius Virgilius Maro was born near present-day Mantua, Italy, on October 15, 70 B.C. After attending school in Cremona and Mediolanum (Milan), he studied philosophy and rhetoric in Rome. For the next decade he lived on his family's farm, working, studying, and writing poetry. His family's lands were confiscated in a land redistribution program for army veterans, and Virgil was given an estate near Naples in compensation. Around the same time he began work on the pastoral poems known as the Eclogues (37 B.C.). He worked seven years on the Georgics (29 B.C.), a group of poems dealing realistically with farm life, and ten more on the Aeneid. It was unfinished when he died on September 20, 19 B.C., in Brundisium (Brindisi), while returning from a trip to Greece. His burial place outside Naples became a shrine.Virgil is the author of 'Aeneid - Virgil - Hardcover' with ISBN 9781587261695 and ISBN 1587261693.
