Get Ready, Get Set . . . Worry To me, faith means not worrying. a?John Dewey Blessed is the person who's too busy to worry in the daytime and too tired to worry at night. a?Earl Riney We are always getting ready to live, but never living. a?Ralph Waldo Emerson All worry is atheism, because it is a want of trust in God. a?Bishop Fulton J. Sheen Banish anxiety from your heart. a?Ecclesiastes 11:10 In actual life every great enterprise begins with and takes its first forward step in faith. a?August Wilhelm von Schlegel Do you get in a tizzy about beginning thingsa?a course, commitment, maybe even a chocolate layer cake? It's a common worrywart trap. I ought to know. This book's a perfect example. First I talked about it for months. Then I worried over whether I'd have enough time to write it. Then, of course, it was, would the right words come? Could I fill a whole book? Would it be any good? Yadda, yadda, yadda. Okay, maybe I was using my anxieties as a form of procrastination. But anyway you look at it, I expended a lot of energy for nothing. What's wrong with this picture? I forgot about God. And it was only after I put my worrying aside long enough to ask for his help that I was able to get the lead out. It was then I came to realize I needed to make a movea?or move on. How many of us can afford to waste time with nothing to show for it? If we put the time it takes to worry to another usea?writing, cooking or beginning somethinga?at least we'll have something tangible, good or bad, to show for ourselves. And surely, a sense of accomplishment feels a whole lot better than a headful of empty anxieties. Today, Lord, I will remember to look to you first and foremost before I start anything. Let me trust your plans for me. Let me anticipate new beginningsa?the way I'd imagine you'd want me toa?as a child looks forward to a birthday gift. And, Lord, once I do get started, let me trust that you have my very best interests at heart, whatever the outcome, even if it's not what I expected. ?2007. Allia Zobel Nolan. All rights reserved.
