A cyclone blows Dorothy from Kansas to the Land of Oz. The price of her trip home is the death of the Wicked Witch of the West. There are fifty-three Oz sequels. Baum also wrote Little Wizard Stories of Oz (1913; Schocken, 1985; Bantam, 1988; Morrow, 1994). The series was continued by Ruth Plumly Thompson, Frank Joslyn Baum, John Rea Neill, Jack Snow, Rachel R. Cosgrove, Eloise Jarvis McGraw, and Lauren McGraw Wagner.
