William Segal was born in Macon, Georgia, in 1904. After attending New York University on an athletic scholarship, he began a career in magazine publishing, eventually becoming the publisher of eleven successful magazines. An acclaimed painter, his work has been the subject of exhibitions in Paris, Tokyo, and Jerusalem, among other cities, including a 1999 retrospective at the Tibet House in New York City.
