John Parkinson is a nationally published photographer who lives in Provo Utah. For more that 35 years he has been making images of the natural landscape as a professional photographer. At the age of 12, he crafted a homemade light box and produced his first black and white contact print, from film exposed in his mother’s folding-bellows camera, a Kodak Autographic 2C. He started photographing more seriously in Hawaii in 1954, using an Argus C-3 and a new” 35-millimeter film called Kodachrome. As he was growing up, with his parent he toured the Rocky Mountains and the Colorado Plateau for pleasure. Thanks to these family visits, he learned to appreciate the resplendent beauty of nature and the magnificent landscapes, which were often just a day trip away from home. In 1976, he modified his long-standing love affair with photography by erasing the a” from avocation”, and mad it a full-time professional pursuit. His images have found their way into thousands of homes and offices throughout the world, in the form of calendars, wall décor, computer screen savers, editorial uses, product labels, and so on. Unusual uses for his images include backgrounds for the Utah Symphony Orchestra and on VISA credit cards. Thousand of bottles of wine carry his images on their labels. Juried shows include the Salt Lake Art Center, the Museum of Natural History at the University Utah and the Kimball Art Center in Park City, Utah. The prestigious Springville Museum of Art sponsored a solo show of his work. One of his framed prints was selected for display in Nikon House in Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. Several large prints hang in the corridors of the United States Congress. He has also collaborated with his wife, Diane, in authoring three books dealing with genealogy and family history.Parkinson, John T. is the author of 'Visual Verse', published 2004 under ISBN 9780974068350 and ISBN 0974068357.
