Anthony Hope was the nom de plume of Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins (1863-1933), a British novelist most famous for his his romantic adventure The Prisoner of Zenda (1894), which was set in the fictional kingdom of Ruritania. He practised as a lawyer until 1894, when he started writing full time after Zenda's success. He completing many other novels and plays, including Rupert of Hentzau, Sophy of Kravonia, and Tristram of Blent.
