Her main field of research is the circulation of scientific and technical knowledge and cultural exchanges between Russia and Western Europe. She is especially interested in the emergence and consolidation of professional engineering networks in Europe from early eighteenth to early nineteenth century and in their role in the building up of a new technical regime in the Russian Empire Rhodri Hayward is research fellow at the Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine, University College, London. His main research has focussed on the popular and religious understanding of psychology and psychiatry in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Britain. His interest in Mendes da Costa developed when he was researching early modern scientific correspondence networks as part of European Union's Prometheus Project Berna Kilinc, formerly with the surname Eden, completed her Ph.D. in 1997 in the Conceptual Foundations of Science Program at the University of Chicago. She worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the Max-Planck-Institut fur Wissenschaftsgeschichte in Berlin, and is currently employed in the Philosophy Department of Bogazici University, Turkey Henrique Leitao (PhD in Theoretical Physics) is currently a researcher in history of science at the University of Lisbon. His main research interests are the history of exact sciences in the sixteenth and seventeenth century. He has published on the scientific practices in the Jesuit schools and on the history of mathematics in Portugal Vanda Leitao is a Ph.D. student in History of Science at the Applied Social Sciences Unit, Faculty of Science and Technology, New University of Lisbon. She is currently investigating the activities of the Portuguese Geological Survey during the second half of the nineteenth century Timo Myllyntaus (Ph.D. in Economic History, LSE) is a Professor of Finnish history at the University of Turku and a Senior Lecturer of history of science and technology at the Helsinki University of Technology. He has studied the history of technology and industrialisation in the Nordic Countries. His main field of research is the use of energy and the transfer of technology into Finland since 1800 Agusti Nieto-Galan is a History of Science lecturer at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain). Following degrees in both chemistry and history, he took his PhD in the History of Science at the Universitat de Barcelona in 1994, and held postdoctoral positions in the Modern History Faculty, University of Oxford, and the CRHST/ "La Villete", Paris. His research is focused mainly on the history of chemical technologies in Britain, France, and Spain in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries Gabor Pallo, D. Sc. is a graduate of the Eotvos Lorand University (philosophy and chemistry) and received his doctorate from the Technical University of Budapest. He is now assistant director of the Institute of Philosophy, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest. He has written books and articles in the philosophy and history of science, particularly twentieth century sciences with special reference to the Hungarian case Manolis Patiniotis is a lecturer at the department of History and Philosophy of Science, Athens University. He delivers courses on Scientific Revolution and the Sciences during the Enlightenment. His research interests include: History of the sciences in the European and the Greek intellectual space during the seventeenth and the eighteenth centuries; the appropriateion of natural philosophy by the scholars of the European periphery; applications of information technology in historical investigation and in the representation of historical knowledge Marco Segala (Ph.D. in Philosophy) is Associate Professor of history of philosophy at the University of L'Aquila, Italy. He was previously Cosimo Ridolfi Fellow at the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza in Firenze, "chercheur associe" at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in Paris, and Humboldt Fellow in Frankfurt. His research activity is mainly devoted to the history of science in the last two centuries, to the relationships between philosophy and science in the first half of the nineteenth century, and to the philosophy of music Ana Simoes is Assistant Professor at the University of Lisbon where she teaches history of science. She was a Senior Fellow at the Dibner Institute for the History of Science and Technology and is a founding member of STEP. She has contributed papers on the history of quantum chemistry and science in the European peripheries Luis Teixeira Pinto is a MSc. Student in History of Science at the Applied Social Sciences Unit, Faculty of Science and Technology, New University of Lisbon.
