This book is concerned with the economic aspects of the transition to egalitarian development. The point of departure is the heterogeneity of the poor. It is shown that this makes it difficult for governments to design policies which benefit some groups of the poor without harming others. Moreover, once a redistribution of income has occurred, a series of acute disequilibria are created. The most obvious symptom will be considerable excess demand for wage goods and especially for food. An analysis of the contemporary experience of Chile, Cuba and China illustrates the difficulties that can arise and the policies that can be used to overcome them.Griffin, Keith B. is the author of 'Transition to Egalitarian Development', published 1981 under ISBN 9780312814656 and ISBN 0312814658.
