Felder Rushing is a 10th-generation Southern gardener whose quirky, overstuffed cottage garden has been featured in many magazines, including Southern Living, Garden Design, Landscape Architecture, House and Garden, the New York Times, and Better Homes and Gardens. In addition to many years of in-depth (what he calls "scratch-and-sniff") studies of both home and public gardens in Florida and the rest of the South, and thousands of lectures-well over a hundred a year, including dozens in every corner of Florida, working with university and industry professionals, and garden clubs and plant societies-Felder has studied in gardens around the world during numerous trips to Europe, South America, and tropical Africa. He holds two horticulture degrees and works very closely with Extension Service consumer horticulturists, often conducting advanced Master Gardener training. He writes twice-weekly garden columns, and his live, call-in radio program broadcast on National Public Radio affiliates gets calls from gardeners in five states. He has appeared on HGTV, Educational TV, the Discovery Channel, and hosted a series shown in twelve states. Hundreds of his articles and photographs have been in over two dozen national magazines, including National Geographic, Fine Gardening, Organic Gardening, National Wildflower Journal, Country Living Gardener, and many others. Once a contributing editor for Garden Design magazine, and one of only six members of Southern Living magazine's garden advisory board, he currently serves as contributing editor of Horticulture magazine. Felder's fourteen garden books include the award-winning Passalong Plants, named the "best written" garden book in the country by the Garden Writers Association, and Tough Plants for Southern Gardens. He is also a national board member of the American Horticultural Society. Believing that too many of his fellow horticulturists complicate things unnecessarily, Felder says that "We are daunted, not dumb." He has spent a lifetime trying to make gardening as easy as it is fun.Rushing, Felder is the author of 'Tough Plants For Florida Gardens Low Care, No Care, Tried and True Winners', published 2005 under ISBN 9781591861201 and ISBN 1591861209.
