"The first Munich mental hospital opened in 1859, and the position of Professor of Psychiatry was established in 1864. Both these events improved the psychiatric care in Munich and became the prerequisite for the further development of psychiatry. They are closely tied to the names August von Solbrig and Bernhard von Gudden. The newly built "Royal Psychiatric Hospital in Munich," housing the department of psychiatry of the Ludwig-Maximillian University, opened its doors on 7th November 1904. Emil Kraeplin, Alois Alzheimer, Oswald Bumke and many other internationally renowned psychiatrists and neurologists have since worked at the Munich hospital. This historical overview reflects the development of patient care, research and teaching in psychiatry over the past two hundred years."--BOOK JACKET.Hippius, H. is the author of 'The University Department of Psychiatry in Munich: From Kraepelin and His Predecessors to Molecular Psychiatry', published 2007 under ISBN 9783540740162 and ISBN 3540740163.
