His loveof horses drove him to the cattle business where in 1880, he joined a posse thatwas pursuing the notorious Billy the Kid. A year later Siringohelped a group of Texas cattlemen bust up a ring of horse thieves. In 1886,shortly after arriving in Chicago with his wife and young daughter, he joinedthe Pinkerton Detective Agency. There he helped convict several men responsiblefor the Haymarket Riots. This led to more work for Siringo, who would go on tosolve many cases by using his skills as a horseman to go undercover and blendin. Retirement took him to Hollywood, where he was an advisor on the sets ofmany westerns.
