Judy Lowe has been active in gardening all her life, starting as a child working with her mother, also an accomplished gardener. Lowe began her garden writing career more than twenty years ago as Garden Editor at the Chattanooga Free Press (now, the Chattanooga Times-Free Press). Judy has shared her gardening wisdom with thousands of readers over the years, and currently is the Garden Editor at The Christian Science Monitor. She also is president of the Garden Writers Association of America, and has held many other offices in that organization over the years. Lowe's other credits include contributing articles to Woman's Day and Southern Living magazines. She was the Southern Gardening Editor for www.suite101.com and appeared weekly in a gardening segment on Chattanooga station WDEF-TV. Judy Lowe has received numerous awards and honors from prestigious organizations. She has received four Quill and Trowel Awards from the Garden Writers Association of America; a Special Communication Award for Tennessee Horticulture from the Tennessee Fruit and Vegetable Growers; the Best Article on Trees from the American Society of Consulting Arborists; the Exemplary Journalism for Home Garden Communication Award from the National Garden Bureau, and many others. Judy is married to an electrical engineer who doubles as the "official hole digger" in their garden. Judy has lived in several different regions of Tennessee and has experience growing plants in everything from hard red clay to shady sites with rocky soils. She and her husband currently live in Soddy Daisy and have two sons.
