The Lubavitcher Rebbe developed a unique approach to the study of Rashi, the primary Torah commentator. With stunning attention to Rashi's linguistic precision, the Rebbe unwrapped often enigmatic phrases, revealing the depth of their meaning, and, in the process, cast a brilliantly luminous light on his commentary that uncovered myriad halachic, philosophic and mystical insights. In Studies in Rashi, two such commentaries are explored, Leviticus 5:21 and Genesis 1:1. In the former, the Rebbe explains how a wealth of knowledge is to be learned from a seemingly extra vav, and in the latter, entitled The Land of Israel, the Rebbe demonstrates how Rashi's commentary delineates how the position of every phrase in Rashi is important. This great body of work has heretofore been accessible only to those studying the Rebbe's original Hebrew and Yiddish printed texts.Yitzchak Kagan is the author of 'Studies In Rashi: A Chasidic Discourse by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of Chabad-Lubavitch', published 2003 under ISBN 9780826607010 and ISBN 0826607012.
