Richard N. ("Dick") Côté, is the author of three biographies. His first was Mary's World: Love, War, and Family Ties in Nineteenth-century Charleston; followed three years later by Theodosia Burr Alston: Portrait of a Prodigy. His most recent book, Strength and Honor: The Life of Dolley Madison, was released in September 2004. He also authored a contemporary novel titled The Redneck Riviera. Dick majored in political science and journalism at Butler University in Indianapolis. He spent six years in the U.S. Air Force, and then eight years conducting historical research and writing in Wisconsin. In the fall of 1979 he joined the staff of the South Carolina Historical Society, where he worked for several years before turning to writing full-time. Since the mid-1980s he has conducted extensive research into South Carolina biography, social history, plantation life and culture, and architecture. He draws from all of these wells of information for his books. In 2004 he was awarded the Bobby Gilmer Moss Award in History by the Daughters of the American Revolution for his outstanding contributions to South Carolina history. He was also a Featured Author at the Southern Literary Festival during the 2004 Spoleto Festival in Charleston. Dick lives in Mt.
