Spirit of the Rock

Stopped by a Snowstorm My friend and I wait at the entrance to the Yosemite Valley. He's sixteen years old with a new driver's license; I'm thirteen or fourteen. Looking out the window watching big snowflakes slowly falling, creating a white blanket over the oak and pine trees, boulders--everything except the river that flows so pure and clean, knowing where it wants to go. Everything is peaceful, so inviting. The feeling is to open the door and run into this beautiful world where everything seems to have a place. In my young mind, comtemplating physically doing this, the moment is so strong. I am mesmerized by believing that this place will take care of me, teach me to be happy and free.
