In the poems of Someone Else' Name, the names of the poets - Frost, Donne, Burns. Shakespeare - converge with names from the bizarre annals of contemporary Americana - Donal Russell, Larry Walters. Dewitt Finley. Both lost and found within the book's forest of surrogate identities, its poems about other people and poems about other poems, the poet names and unnames, is named and unnamed. Such metaphoric play turns out, moreover, to be the way the word works in the world at large, as the poetic imagination reads the surprising correspondences of the signs and figures it finds there. Joseph Harrison was born in Richmond. Virginia, in 1957, grew up in northern Virginia and Alabama. His poems have appeared in various journals, amongst them The Antioch Review, Boston Review. The Keny-on Review. The Paris Review, and The Yale Review, as well as in The Best American Poetry 1998. Someone Else's Name was a runner-up for the 2005 Poet's Prize. Earlier in 2005 he received an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.Harrison, Joseph is the author of 'Someone Else's Name ', published 2007 under ISBN 9781904130062 and ISBN 1904130062.
