SHORT CUTS is a three-level series for teaching English to young adult and adult students. This series addresses students at the lowest level of English instruction, from true beginners through low intermediate level. In the United States, a typical profile of a student in this situation is a recent immigrant who needs to learn English in order to improve his/her life in this society. Adult ESOL courses that address this student population are taught in a variety of settings: private English schools, high school districts, community colleges, workplace, community centers, and so on. At the college level, these courses are typically offered on a non-credit basis. Internationally, the SHORT CUTS program is also appropriate for low-level courses in a variety of settings. Chapters in each text are organized systematically and involve practice of all four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In addition to the student text, each level of the SHORT CUTS program contains a wide variety of teacher and student supplements. The most unique feature of the SHORT CUTS program is its use of manipulatives to teach students key vocabulary and concepts. The use of these manipulatives addresses a variety of learning styles: visual, aural, and kinesthetic. They also provide immediate feedback for both teacher and student and provide numerous opportunities for student-centered cooperative learning.Mentel, James R. is the author of 'Short Cuts An Interactive English Course' with ISBN 9780070420168 and ISBN 0070420165.
