Robert Gandt is a former Navy fighter/attack pilot who logged more than three hundred day and night carrier landings in the A-4 Skyhawk. At age twenty, he was the youngest aviator in the U.S. Navy. He has been a weapons test pilot, flight instructor, crop duster, and airshow pilot. As a captain for Pan Am and then Delta Air Lines, he was based in Hong Kong, Berlin, San Francisco, and New York, accumulating more than thirty thousand flying hours. In 1995 he returned to his old squadron to fly the F/A-18 Hornet and write about a class of men and women training to fly the Navy's hottest fighter. Gandt has written a number of novels and nonfiction books. His screen credits include the television series Pensacola: Wings of Gold, as writer and consultant. He lives with his wife, Anne, and two aerobatic airplanes in Spruce Creek, a flying community in Daytona Beach, Florida.
