George G. Suggs, Jr. was educated at Wake Forest University and the University of Colorado at Boulder where he received the BA, MA, and PhD degrees in history. Recipient of a John Hay Whitney Foundation Fellowship in the Humanities in 1959 to attend Northwestern University and a National Endowment for the Humanities Resident Fellowship in 1980 to attend Brown University, Suggs is the author of four previous books. His many articles and reviews have appeared in leading historical journals.
