At a time when Romania is becoming part of European and international economic and security structures after decades of forced isolation, it is of increasing importance to bring to light those aspects of Romanian history and culture that illustrate the historic ties of the Romanians with Western Civilisation. For this reason, The Center for Romanian Studies organised its second international conference, held in Iasi from 4th-6th June 1996, on the theme 'Romania and Western Civilization.'
