Mike Marriner grew up in Laguna Beach, California, where he spent his summers as a lifeguard and surfed year-round. He played water polo at Pepperdine University, and his team won the Division One, NCAA National Championships in 1997. At Pepperdine, Mike double majored in biology and sports medicine, blindly following in the footsteps of generations of family doctors. He graduated in 2000. While he had a passion for scientific theory, he did not want to spend his days working in a lab or a hospital, yet he had no clue what else to do. So he hit the road with his best friend Nate in 1999. Since then, as a cofounder of Roadtrip Nation, he has interviewed more than 150 professionals and mastered the challenge of driving a thirty-one-foot RV. Nathan Gebhard, also an avid surfer, grew up in Laguna Beach. While studying business at Orange Coast College and Pepperdine University, Nate was almost kicked out of class for his poor pen-manship and spelling. His love of learning was not stifled, and he graduated with a business degree in 2000. Rather than take a job as a business consultant, he hit the road with his best friend Mike to explore the real world of work. An adventurer at heart, Nate has climbed the 14,000-foot peak of Grand Teton, explored above the Arctic Circle, and run two marathons (without training). As a cofounder of Roadtrip Nation, he has become an artful cold-caller. Joanne Gordon has been a reporter and writer at Forbes magazine since April 1998 and has written about management, career, and workplace issues for the past ten years. Before becoming a professional writer, Joanne spent six years in marketing and, in 1997, earned a graduate degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She graduated from Indiana University in 1991 with a B.A. in journalism. Unlike her coauthors, the closest she comes to surfing is rollerblading through Central Park in New York City, where she lives.Gebhard, Nathan is the author of 'Roadtrip Nation A Guide to Discovering Your Path in Life', published 2003 under ISBN 9780345460134 and ISBN 0345460138.
