Rise+decline of Asian Century

In this major re-write of The Rise and Decline of the Asian Century, a critique of Asia's emerging economies, Christopher Lingle is joined by Philippine Professor of Management Reuben Mondejar. Lingle and Mondejar contend that the culprit behind economic instability in East and Southeast Asia is not global capital flows, rather domestic "institutional infrastructure" incompatible with the desires of East Asian states to be players in the global marketplace. They believe that a new crisis of East and Southeast Asian economies may be in the offing, caused by the accumulation of public-sector debt. This debt has been incurred to deal with the restructuring of banks and corporations weakened by Japan's lingering economic malaise, China's economic reforms and the 1997 crash of smaller East Asian and Southeast Asian Economies.
