Harry W. Sorge is a licensed Master Electrician. He graduated from college in 1970 with degrees in economics and secondary education. He became an apprentice electrician in 1977 after holding several corporate jobs because, as he said in a job interview, "I am 30 years old and I don't know how to do anything." Following completion of an apprenticeship training program, he began teaching electrical classes at night for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Independent Electrical Contractors Association (IEC), a nationwide trade organization of independent electrical contractors for all scopes and types of electrical contracting businesses, while working in the field full time. Over the next 14 years he taught first-year, second-year, and fourth-year apprenticeship classes; classes for licensing examination preparation; and classes on NECR changes, motor controls, services, grounding, and many other subjects for the IEC. In 1996, he was asked to take over the functional operation of the apprenticeship training program for the Rocky Mountain Chapter and over the next two years, the school enrollment more than doubled to over 400 students. The Rocky Mountain Chapter program was chosen as the Outstanding Training Program in 1997 at the IEC's national convention. Mr. Sorge is a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and the NFPA. He has served on the national committee of the IEC for first-year curriculum.Sorge, Wayne is the author of 'Residential Wiring An Introductory Approach Based on the 2005 National Electronic Code', published 2004 under ISBN 9781401878665 and ISBN 1401878660.
