Renewable Energy Technologies A Review of the Status and Costs of Selected Technologies

Evaluates the sustainable progress made by anitpoverty programs with a focus on recent poverty research as it relates to the anitpoverty strategy described in World Development Report 1990. This strategy promotes growth policies that use the poor people's labor, their principal asset, to advance their economic status. It also provides basic social services to improve health, education, nutrition, and family planning among the poor. The anthology examines the life-saving importance of measuring poverty accurately and allocating limited resources fairly. It discusses how the poor can be adversely affected by events such as technical advances in agriculture and by development policies with conditions on lending. A series of direct actions to reduce poverty is suggested. These remedies would help countries adopt the strategy proposed in World Development Report 1990. They include land redistribution, food-linked income transfers, more equitable social services, and rural development programs that stress poverty alleviation.
