SUMMARY

James E. Post, Professor of Management at Boston University, is senior coauthor of Business and Society: Corporate Strategy, Public Policy, Ethics (10th edition, 2002, McGraw-Hill) and series editor of Research in Corporate Social Performance and Policy (Elsevier/JAI). His 1975 book Private Management and Public Policy (Prentice-Hall), coauthored with Lee E. Preston and regarded as a defining contribution to its field of study, was honored with a 20th Anniversary Symposium at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting in 1995. During 1994-95, Post served as research director of business and society studies at The Conference Board. He is the author of more than 100 academic publications and has served as a consultant to international agencies, foundations, and business firms on the social aspects and impacts of business management. Lee E. Preston, Professor Emeritus of the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, is the author or editor of more than 150 academic publications in the fields of economics, marketing management, and public policy. His most recent book, The Rules of the Game in the Global Economy: Policy Regimes for International Business (Kluwer), was published in a revised second edition in 1997. His 1995 article "The Stakeholder Theory of the Corporation: Concepts, Evidence and Implications," coauthored with Thomas Donaldson, established a new basis for analysis and study of this topic. Between 1995 and 2000, he was codirector of the "Redefining the Corporation" project, funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Sybille Sachs is Associate Professor at the Institute for Research in Business Administration at the University of Zurich. Her habilitation thesis, "The Corporation's Role in Society," was published in 2000. She has published a number of research papers in German, and several recent articles in English.
