Keith Smith was born and raised in Tuba City, Arizona, where he continues to live today with his wife and two children. His clans are Honeycomb People (Tséníjíkiní) born for the Salt Clan (Ashiihi). In 1994, Keith received his bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with emphasis on painting from Northern Arizona University. For the past ten years, he has been a professional artist and has attended art shows throughout the Southwest. He was chosen as the Gallup Inter-tribal Ceremonial Pow-Wow poster artist in 2001. He was also chosen as the Southwestern Association of Indian Arts fellow in 2002 and was featured in Southwest Art magazine. Proud to Be a Blacksheep is the second book Keith has illustrated for Salina Bookshelf, Inc.
