Practicing Discernment Together

Bruce Bishop: Currently I am the interim associate superintendent of Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends (NWYM). Encouraged by the understanding of Friends and my own experience growing up in the Friends community, I’ve made spiritual discernment a priority. For the last several years I’ve been helping Friends relearn the theology and practice of discernment, offering workshops and practicums around personal and corporate spiritual discernment. As clerk of the elders at my local church, I’ve had the opportunity to practice what I preach, moving it from a task-oriented committee to a discernment-based community. I desire to become increasingly sensitive to the stirrings of God in my life and to help others do so as well.
