William Colt MacDonald has published to date nearly seventy Western novels, and over sixty motion pictures have been based on his Western fiction or the characters he created. Ten of these films starred or featured John Wayne; in eight of them he was cast as Stony Brooke, part of the popular Three Mesquiteers series.
