Pieces of Another World

Mara Rockliff has been writing educational materials for children since 1991; both textbooks and fictional beginning readers. Her book, Next to an Ant, was published by Scholastic in 2004. Her inspiration for Just a Little Piece of Another World came from two separate experiences. When she was a young child, she recalls her parents waking her up and taking her to a local Dairy Queen in the middle of the night. She says that she still has no idea why they did it, but that it was a thrill to be out in the strange and glamorous nighttime world. Later, as a young adult while visiting friends in Texas, she witnessed her first meteor shower.
