For those that have asked me: "why write poetry?," I will ask: "why dance?" People dance because their spirit urges them to do so, because they need to express in their physical movement the energy that is greater then their body. Poetry is a dance of the spirit, a dance expressed through words. It is a very imperfect and inadequate symbolic representation of the greater reality that is within us, for words are so faulty in their own nature, as is our body in its representation of our essence... and yet, somehow we manage to convey something beyond movement, something beyond words. I did not choose poetry as a form of expression because of its precision and format; I chose it precisely because somewhere in between the lines I can convey something beyond words. The reader will notice an almost split personality that emerges among the different poems. It is not a matter of contradiction, it is not a matter of darkness verses light, it is not even an indecision between the "in your face reality" and ethereal escapades. The truth is that I am a human, struggling, falling and rising above, and it is that which I choose to convey in my poetry. It is a dance between confusion and clarity in which I choose to honor both. Why? Because confusion is a state that propels the human spirit into a higher clarity. Were it not for confusion, there would be no trampoline to propel us into the next state. I therefore acknowledge and honor it even during the moments that seem to tear down all the beauty I have struggled to create; for when it is all said and done, it was not the beauty that was torn down, it was the belief structure about that beauty that was torn down, that no longer serves. That is thereason why my poetry sometimes needs to spit on the holiest of things, the dearest of things.KONSTANTINOVIC, MINA is the author of 'Pictures That Don't Fit The Frame' with ISBN 9781418450243 and ISBN 1418450243.
