James Matthew Barrie was born May 9, 1860, in Kirriemuir, Scotland, the ninth of ten children. Wanting to be a writer from an early age, he put on plays based on his mother's tales of small-town life in Scotland. He earned a degree from Edinburgh University and briefly worked for a newspaper before moving to London to write. He had early hits with the plays The Little Minister (1897) and The Admirable Crichton (1902), and the runaway success of Peter Pan (1904) brought him riches and fame. In all, Barrie wrote forty plays as well as a dozen works of fiction. Though his marriage ended in divorce in 1907, his life was generally happy, and full of honors: he was made a baronet (1913) and chosen to head both St. Andrew's University (1919) and Edinburgh University (1930). He died June 19, 1937, and is buried in Kirriemuir.Barrie, J. M. is the author of 'Peter Pan' with ISBN 9781587261022 and ISBN 1587261022.
