Melinda Myers, best known for her gardener-friendly and practical approach to gardening, has over twenty years of horticultural experience in both hands-on and instructional settings. She has a Masters Degree in Horticulture and is a Horticultural Instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College, where she teaches students preparing to work in the field of landscape horticulture. Outside the classroom, Myers shares her expertise through a variety of media. She hosts "Great Lakes Gardener" seen on PBS stations throughout the Midwest. She has hosted the "Plant Doctor Radio Show" on WTMJ since 1987. Past shows include "Wisconsin Lawn and Garden," a weekly show on PBS, "Yardworks," a nationally syndicated yard care and garden show, and a variety of other cable gardening programs. Myers is also an accomplished garden writer. She has been contributing editor and columnist for Birds and Blooms Magazine, a publication with two million subscribers throughout the United States and Canada, since 1996 and written a bi-monthly column, "Gardeners' Questions," for the Milwaukee Journal since 1986. Myers has written several books, including The Garden Book for Wisconsin, My Wisconsin Garden: A Gardener's Journal, Month by Month Gardening in Wisconsin, Minnesota Horticultural Society's Minnesota Gardener's Guide, and Month-by-Month Gardening in Minnesota. Her thirteen years experience at the University of Wisconsin Extension Service allowed her to work with backyard, community, and master gardeners throughout Wisconsin. As Milwaukee's Assistant City Forester, Myers helped manage the street trees, boulevards, and green spaces for the city. She has worked with the Young Adult Conservation Corps supervising crews that maintained University of Wisconsin urban test gardens, repaired hiking trails, and other conservation work. A horticultural consultant to numerous community and beautification groups, Melinda began the Master Garden Program in Milwaukee County.
