Regarded as one of the chief spiritual leaders of Korea, Dr. Ilchi Lee is the founder of the modern DahnHak Movement, a Korean tradition of a system of physical, mental, and spiritual exercises that seeks to use the energy, or "Ki" system of the body to attain a spiritual awakening. Distinguished guests included, among others, Maurice Strong, a senior advisor to the Secretary General of the United Nations and the president of University for Peace; Seymour Topping, administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes and professor of international journalism at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism; Reverend Wyatt Tee Walker, senior pastor of Canaan Baptist Church and noted civil rights activist and former executive secretary to Martin Luther King; Jean Houston, world's leading researcher in human potential and co-director of the Foundation for Mind Research; Hanne Strong, president of Manitou Foundation and an environmental activist; and Audrey Ronning Topping, a prize winning photo-journalist and author. Attending as a special guest, former U.S. vice-president Al Gore also drew particular attention. He was recently awarded "Korea¡¯s Presidential Medal of Civil Merit," the highest award that a civilian can receive in Korea. His good works are being recognized in the USA, also. In recognition of his contribution to the welfare of humanity, Dr. Ilchi Lee was rewarded the Phoenix Prize by the City of Atlanta, which also named October 28th, 2001, "Ilchi Lee Day."
