Jim Peterson was born in Georgia, raised in South Carolina, and has lived in Montana and Virginia. When not writing or teaching, he prefers to spend his time riding his motorcycle around the country or hiking in the mountains and deserts of the West. His fourth poetry collection, The Owning Stone, won The Benjamin Saltman Award and was published in 2000 by Red Hen Press. His poetry has been widely published in such journals as Poetry, Georgia Review, Shenandoah, and Prairie Schooner, and was awarded a 1993 Poetry Fellowship by the Virginia Arts Commission. His plays have been produced in colleges and regional theatres. Paper Crown is his first novel.
