Anita C. Prieto was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and now lives in Metairie. From Louisiana State University she has a B.S. in Education and an M.Ed. in Educational Administration. Her doctorate (Ed.D.) is from the University of New Orleans. Her professional life (33 years) was spent in the Orleans Parish School System where she worked as a classroom teacher, television teacher, school principal, and acting area superintendent. She is now retired and writing full-time. Her favorite pastimes include traveling, reading, gardening, and playing Mah-Jongg with friends. Artist Laura Knorr graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration from the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, and has worked as a freelance illustrator for several years. Laura lives in Commerce, Georgia. P is for Pelican is her second children's book with Sleeping Bear Press.
