The marvelous log homes created by master log reclaimer Terry Baird of McLeod, Montana, were the inspiration and resources for this book. His independent spirit and his artistic inner voice led Baird to look for something more interesting and challenging than building conventional houses. In Montana, he got involved with constructing and renovating homes, a fair number of which were made of logs. Though at first he had no log-building experience, he brought to his projects a trial-and-error spirit and was able to ask questions and learn from other log-home builders in the area as they gathered after work.
