The expedition leader, Sir Sanford Fleming, was the Father of Standard Time, founder of the Royal Canadian Institute, designer of Canada's first postage stamp, author, artist, and town planner. George Monro Grant (1835-1902) was secretary of the expedition (and minister of the church Fleming attended).
