Stan Hutton cofounded a nonprofit organization in 1976. This marked the beginning of his continuing involvement with nonprofits as an executive director, fundraiser, consultant, writer, and volunteer. He has served as development director of Cogswell College and executive director of the Easter Seal Society of San Francisco and the Executive Service Corps of the Bay Area. At present, he works at the San Francisco Study Center, is a program consultant for the Clarence E. Heller Charitable Foundation, and writes for and manages the Nonprofit Charitable Organizations Web site at About.com. He is past president and member of the board of directors of Small Press Traffic Literary Arts Center. Frances Phillips began her career in nonprofit organizations working for a National Endowment for the Humanities curriculum project at San Francisco State University when she was fresh out of graduate school. She has been a partner in the public relations and fundraising firm Horne, McClatchy and Associates; director of the Poetry Center and American Poetry Archives at San Francisco State; and executive director of Intersection for the Arts, San Francisco's oldest alternative arts organization. Currently she is a program officer at an independent foundation, the Walter and Elise Haas Fund, and director of The Creative Work Fund, which awards grants to collaborations between artists and San Francisco Bay Area nonprofits.
