Newport

Located in the northern tip of Kentucky and fortuitously bordered by rivers on two sides, Newport has flourished for over 200 years. Col. James Taylor of Caroline County, Virginia, received a military grant for 1,500 acres, and his son Hubbard selected and surveyed a tract of wilderness along the Ohio River. This area was chosen and named Newport in honor of Christopher Newport, a British privateer who commanded several early expeditions to Virginia, including the voyage transporting the first permanent colonists to Jamestown.
