This is an updated and substantially revised edition of Peter Matthews’s Morphology, first published in 1974. It remains a lucid introduction to the field, taken in its wider sense, and looks at the ways in which different scholars and schools of linguistics approach the subject, setting out and comparing the merits of these different treatments. The work will appeal both to specialists in particular languages - it contains much original material - and to students of general linguistics.
