James Patrick Kelly has spent the better part of a decade covering Idaho's food and wine scene, traveling all across the state to write about everything from locally-produced caviar in Hagerman Valley to winemaking in Sunny Slope to foraging for morel mushrooms in Yellow Pine. An avid angler, mountain biker, backpacker, and Nordic skier, James was initially drawn to Idaho because of the state's abundance of outdoor sports. He moved there in 2000 to attend Boise State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in communications/journalism. In his professional life, he worked as a freelance contributor to theIdaho Statesman,Boise's daily newspaper, for which he wrote weekly restaurant reviews and food-related and entertainment news, as well as produced travel pieces forTreasure,the paper's glossy lifestyle magazine. James is currently a frequent contributor toNorthwest Palate,a Portland-based food, wine, and travel magazine, in which he has published many articles about Idaho. He also writes a twice-monthly column for Village Voice Media's professional food blog, dailyfork.com.
