Mike Sigalas, a resident of Charleston, wrote this book to the rhythm of clinking cups in various Lowcountry coffeehouses, to the creaking of a ceiling fan in a sticky upstairs room, and to the steady drumbeat of a toddler's fists on an office door. A stickler for authenticity, Mike consumed only hickory-smoked barbecue, shrimp, Brunswick stew, and sweet tea as he worked. Mike taught writing for a decade at a number of colleges and universities, including the University of South Carolina, the Citadel Military College, Orangeburg-Calhoun College, and others. He holds degrees from the University of South Carolina and California State University, Chico, where fellow alumni include writer Raymond Carver and Buns of Steel host Tami-Lee Webb. Before college, he worked his way through high school at Baskin-Robbins #122, where his talented minimum-wage shift mates included current San Francisco-based author/editor Larry Rosen; former Duke professor and noted Military Ethics expert Major Peter S. Bowen; and Henry Chu, Beijing Correspondent for the Los Angeles Times. Mike's other jobs included working as a blood bank distribution specialist, college-town rock singer, newspaper and magazine editor, Disneyland Jungle Cruise skipper, and surf-band roadie. He is also the author of Moon Handbooks North Carolina (second edition), Moon Handbooks Coastal Carolinas, Moon Handbooks Charleston and Savannah, and co-author of Moon Handbooks Smoky Mountains.Sigalas, Mike is the author of 'Moon Handbooks South Carolina', published 2003 under ISBN 9781566915458 and ISBN 1566915457.
