From the second century A.D. until the end of the nineteenth, virtually nothing was known of Herodas or his work. In 1891 an Egyptian papyrus roll was published with seven virtually complete poems together with fragments of two others, and thus this minor Hellenistic poet, contemporary with Callimachus and Theocritus, and his unique dramatic sketches of scenes from daily life, was restored to the canon of ancient Greek literature. This edition presents the text of the papyrus and the few other sources with corrections of errors and gaps generally agreed upon by scholars; less certain changes are cited in the apparatus criticus. The few surviving papyrus fragments of the popular mime are also included. The volume includes separate word-indexes for Herodas and the papyrus fragments.Herodas is the author of 'Mimiambi (Bibliotheca Scriptorum Graecorum Et Romanorum Teubneriana) (German Edition)', published 2004 under ISBN 9783598712586 and ISBN 3598712588.
