Marina Tsvetaeva (1892-1941) was born in Moscow. Educated at a series of Russian gymnasiums and the Sorbonne, she published her first collection, Evening Album, at the age of eighteen. After exile, at first in Prague, then Paris following the revolution, she returned to the USSR in 1939. There she committed suicide in 1941. Her other works include The Ratcatcher, and Selected Poem Robin Kemball is the translator of Tsvetaeva's The Demesne of the Swans.
