Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak grew up as a sickly child who passed the time by sketching the children who played in the street below his window. Not surprisingly, Sendak excelled in art during high school and eventually his talent paid off when he was hired as a storybook illustrator. He then began to write books as well as illustrate them, and his unique vision helped him create stories that allowed children to experience places and journeys not often found in other books, including the unforgettable tale of Max in Where the Wild Things Are.
