Born in 1904 in New York City, Margaret Bourke-White was a smart, serious child, fascinated by the natural world. After graduating from Cornell University in 1927, she first worked as an architectural photographer and later became one of the first photographers for Life magazine. Considered a pioneer in her field, Bourke-White was the first foreign photographer allowed in the Soviet Union.
