For many years of her life, Ruth Gipson Plowhead was a contributor of stories and feature articles to nationally-known magazines and to Child Life and other junior periodicals. Her writings also appeared in many anthologies. Books like her Lucretia Ann on the Oregon Trail were adopted as supplementary readers in many states. Ruth Gipson Plowhead was born in Horace Greeley's famous colony of Greeley, Colorado. Her grandfather was a member of the colony locating committee that picked the townsite. The family moved to Denver where her father was a banker. Later the Gipsons came to Idaho, settling in Caldwell Agnes Randall Moore illustrated the Lucretia Ann books.
