Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751 - 1816) playwright and orator, was born in Dublin. His masterpiece, The School for Scandal, was produced in 1777; equally brilliant in dialogue and in invention, it was an immediate and lasting success. Sheridan turned to politics in 1780 and sat in Parliament for thirty-two years. He was a friend of Burke and Fox, but despite his brilliance as an orator, which held the house enthralled, he secured only minor appointments in government.Sanders, Lloyd C. is the author of 'Life of Richard Brinsley Sheridan', published 2003 under ISBN 9781410207067 and ISBN 1410207064.
